Okay, so I’ve been meaning to organize my yoga space for a while now, and I finally got around to it. The biggest issue was my yoga mats – they were always lying around, getting in the way. So, I decided to build a wall-mounted yoga mat rack. It seemed simple enough, and honestly, it was!
First, I went online to try and find some ready-made options. I saw a bunch of different styles, some really fancy and some basic. Many reviews said the quality was good. But they were a bit pricey, and I figured I could probably make something similar myself for cheaper. Plus, I kinda like doing these little DIY projects.
I decided on a simple design. Nothing too complicated, just a basic rack that could hold a couple of mats. I sketched out a rough plan – two vertical pieces of wood for the sides and a few horizontal pieces to hold the mats. Easy peasy.
Next, I took a trip to the local hardware store. I picked up some wood, screws, and a few other bits and pieces. I also grabbed some sandpaper and wood stain because I wanted it to look decent. I spent about an hour there, trying to find the right stuff. The store was super busy, and it took me a while to track everything down.
Back home, I got to work. I measured and cut the wood according to my sketch. Then, I sanded down all the pieces to get rid of any rough edges. This part took a while, but it’s important to make it all smooth, you know? Nobody wants splinters.
After that, I assembled the rack. I screwed the horizontal pieces to the vertical ones, making sure everything was nice and sturdy. I even used a level to make sure it was straight – don’t want a wonky rack, right? It was actually pretty fun putting it all together. My cat kept batting at the screws, which was a bit of a nuisance, but entertaining.
Once the rack was assembled, I applied the wood stain. I chose a dark walnut color because it matched the other furniture in the room. It took two coats to get the color I wanted, and I had to wait for it to dry completely before I could mount it on the wall. I left it overnight, just to be sure.
The next day, I found a good spot on the wall for the rack. I used a stud finder to make sure I was screwing into something solid. Then, I drilled some holes and mounted the rack. It felt really satisfying to see it up there, finally.
- Step 1: Found a good idea online.
- Step 2: Made a rough plan.
- Step 3: Bought materials from the hardware store.
- Step 4: Cut and sanded the wood.
- Step 5: Assembled the rack.
- Step 6: Applied wood stain and let it dry.
- Step 7: Mounted the rack on the wall.
And that’s it! My yoga mats now have a proper home, and my yoga space looks so much more organized. It was a fun little project, and it didn’t even cost that much. Plus, I got the satisfaction of building something myself. If you’re looking for a way to store your yoga mats, I definitely recommend giving this a try. It’s easier than you might think!
