OK, so, I’ve been messing around with this 7mm curved barbell thing for a while now, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I initially bought it because I wanted to try a new kind of jewelry for my eyebrow piercing, but, man, it was not as simple as I thought it would be.
First off, I went to my usual piercing shop. I picked out this 7mm curved barbell. It looked kinda cool, and I thought it would be a nice change from the usual stuff I wear.
When I got home, I realized I had no idea how to put this thing in. I mean, it’s curved, right? So it’s not as easy as just pushing it through. I tried and tried, but it just wouldn’t go in right. It was frustrating, to say the least.
- Tried putting it in myself, failed miserably.
- Watched some online tutorials, still couldn’t get it.
- Considered giving up, but it was too pretty to abandon.
I even went back to the piercing shop to ask for help, and the guy there showed me how to do it. He made it look so easy! He said that because of the swelling, if I put a straight one, it would either hit against the inside of the ear or stick out, and get caught on everything. And that the curve allows for the length to sit mostly on the inside and not get snagged. I felt a bit dumb, but at least I learned something new.
The Learning Curve
The curve of the barbell is meant to work with the natural curve of your body. The piercer also mentioned that curved barbells are good for belly button rings, nipple rings, and even rook piercings. I had no idea! I thought they were just for eyebrows. They have this unique, banana-like shape that is actually pretty practical for various places.
After watching him, I went back home and tried again. And guess what? I finally got it in! It felt a bit weird at first, but I got used to it. I guess you just have to put it in with a very specific method to get it to work with the curves and angles of your body, but that’s what makes it so practical for so many different body parts. I did notice that the size of these curved barbells is measured from the inside, not the outside. It makes sense, but it is good to know.
Now, I’m rocking this 7mm curved barbell, and I actually really like it. It fits perfectly. Some people mentioned online that they are suitable for virtually every piercing type, but I don’t think I’ll use one on surface piercings. The guy at the shop said they reject often when you use them like that. He said there is also a kind of curved barbell called a J-Bar, but that it is more trouble than it’s worth. It’s like the curved one, but with a bend 2/3 of the way down.
So, yeah, that’s my story about the 7mm curved barbell. It was a bit of a struggle, but I’m glad I stuck with it. It’s a cool piece of jewelry, and I learned a lot in the process.
