Okay, here’s my blog post about the “Donuts Dumbbells and Dreams Merch” journey:
Alright, folks, let’s talk about this whole “Donuts Dumbbells and Dreams” merch thing I’ve been messing with. It all started because, well, I love donuts, I lift (sometimes), and I’ve got big dreams, just like everyone else. I figured, why not put it on a shirt? Or a mug? Or, heck, even a sticker!
The Idea Hits
I started by sketching out some ideas. Let me tell you, my drawing skills are… questionable. Stick figures are my specialty. But, I managed to scribble down a few concepts that combined, you know, donuts and dumbbells. It looked rough, but the core idea was there.
Finding Design Help(This Was Tough)
Next, I knew I needed help. My stick figures weren’t exactly going to fly off the shelves. So, I scoured the internet for designers. I checked out a few freelance sites. Lots of scrolling, lots of portfolios. Finally, I found someone whose style I liked, and I reached out. We chatted back and forth, and I tried to explain my goofy vision.
Choosing What Stuff to Sell
I started looking at print-on-demand because you do not have keep any inventory. With the designs sorted (thank goodness), I had to figure out what to actually sell. I decided to start simple: T-shirts, hoodies, and maybe some mugs. I didn’t want to go crazy with options at the beginning. I figured, if people liked the basics, I could always add more stuff later.
Getting it All Set Up
Then came the fun part – setting up a shop! I went and use a print-on-demand service. It seemed easy enough. I uploaded my designs, picked the products I wanted, and wrote some product descriptions. Man, writing descriptions is harder than it looks! I tried to be funny, but I mostly just sounded like an idiot.
The Big Launch (And Nervous Waiting)
Finally, I launched the shop. I shared it on my social media, crossed my fingers, and waited. It was nerve-wracking! I kept refreshing the page, hoping to see that first sale. And… nothing. For a while, anyway. Then, a friend bought a shirt! Then another! It was a slow trickle, but hey, it was something!

Learning as I Go
- Marketing is hard. Seriously, getting people to actually see your stuff is a challenge.
- Customer service is important. Even for a small-time thing like this, you gotta be responsive and helpful.
- It’s fun! Even with the ups and downs, it’s been a blast creating something from scratch.
So, that’s where I’m at with the “Donuts Dumbbells and Dreams” merch. It’s a work in progress, for sure. I’m still learning, still tweaking things, and still trying to figure out this whole online business thing. But, it’s been a fun ride, and I’m excited to see where it goes!
