Alright, so I wanted to make a cool yoga mat design, but I didn’t want to actually make a yoga mat, you know? So I figured, let’s try a mockup! I’ve never really done one of these from scratch before, so it was a bit of a learning experience. Here’s how it all went down.

Finding the Right Image
First things first, I needed a good base image. Something plain, so I could slap my design on it without any distractions. I looked around for free stock photos and I found just a plain, rolled-up yoga mat. It was perfect because it was just lying there, blank and ready for anything.
Getting to Work in Photoshop
Next, I opened that image in Photoshop. I’m no Photoshop wizard, I just know enough to get by, which is usually all you need! I created a new layer on top of the background, and I used the rectangle tool to make a shape roughly the size of the yoga mat’s surface. I filled it with a bright, random color at first, just so I could see it easily.
Then came the part where i add a smart object and insert my design into the smart object layer.
Warping it All Together
Now, this is where it got a little tricky. I wanted to create a shadow that the yoga mat would cast. I tried a few things, played with the layer styles, and finally added a simple drop shadow. It wasn’t perfect, but it gave the mat a little bit of depth, making it look less like a flat image pasted on top.
The Final Touches
I spent some time tweaking the colors, adjusting the shadow, and making sure everything looked reasonably realistic. I wanted it to look like a real product photo, even though it was all just digital trickery.
Finally, I was pretty happy with it! It wasn’t going to win any design awards, but it looked * definitely served its purpose, which was to show off my design without needing a real yoga mat.

So, that’s it! My little adventure in making a yoga mat mockup. It was a fun experiment, and I learned a few things along the way. If I can do it, anyone can!
