Okay, so I’ve been doing this yoga thing for a while now, and my biggest headache? Figuring out where to stash my yoga mat. I mean, it’s not exactly small, and I don’t want it just lying around getting all dusty and stepped on. So, I went on a little mission to find the best way to store it, and I think I’ve cracked the code.
Clean It Up
First things first, I always give my mat a good wipe down before I even think about putting it away. I mean, who wants to roll up all that sweat and grime? Not me! I just use a damp cloth and sometimes a bit of mild soap if it’s really seen some action. A clean mat is a happy mat, you know?
Roll, Don’t Fold
Now, here’s a big one I learned the hard way – never, and I mean never, fold your yoga mat. It’s all about rolling it up nice and tight. This keeps it in good shape and prevents those annoying creases that can mess with your flow. Plus, it just looks neater when it’s all rolled up.
Find a Cool Spot
Once it’s rolled, I try to find a cool, dry place to keep it. I used to just shove it in a closet, but then I realized that wasn’t the best idea. It’s better to store it somewhere with good airflow to prevent any funky smells from developing. I found a nice spot in my spare room, away from direct sunlight, which can also damage the mat over time.
Bag It Up
Sometimes, I like to put my mat in a carrying bag. It’s super handy, especially if I’m taking it to a class or something. The bag protects it from getting dirty, and the strap makes it easy to carry around. Plus, some of those bags are actually pretty cute!
Hang It Up
I recently got this wall-mounted hook thingy, and it’s been a game-changer. I hang my mat, still in its bag, on the hook in my entryway. It’s such a smart move because it saves a ton of space, and I never forget where I put my mat. It’s right there, staring me in the face whenever I leave the house, reminding me to get my yoga on!
So, that’s my yoga mat storage routine. I cleaned it, rolled it, found a good spot, sometimes bagged it, and sometimes hung it up. It might seem like a lot, but trust me, it’s worth it to keep your mat in top condition. Happy storing, everyone!
