Okay, so today I decided to give the 10kg barbell a try. I’ve been seeing people using them at the gym for a while now, and I figured it was time to see what all the fuss was about. I went to the gym and just wanted to start something new. Honestly, I’m not a pro or anything, I just like trying different things and, you know, seeing what works for my body.
So, I picked up the barbell. It’s not super heavy, but it’s definitely not as light as those technique barbells I saw some beginners using, one is 15lb, another is 35lb. This one felt just right for someone like me who’s not a total newbie but also not lifting super heavyweights yet. Then I found a quiet corner in the gym – didn’t want to embarrass myself if I messed up, you know? I started with some simple bicep curls. Just basic stuff, nothing fancy.
The bar itself had these markings on it. I’m guessing they’re for hand placement? One set of grip markings was closer to the middle, and another set was a bit wider. I think I read somewhere that these markings are for different types of lifting, like powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting or something. Anyway, I just grabbed it where it felt comfortable and did a few sets.
- First, 3 sets of 10 reps. Felt okay, not too challenging.
- Then I added a couple more reps, 3 sets of 12. Still manageable.
- Finally, I pushed myself a little and did 3 sets of 15. That was a bit tougher, but I managed to finish them.
After that, I tried some overhead presses. This was a bit more challenging, but I still managed to do a few sets. I didn’t keep track of the exact reps, but it was somewhere around 8-10 per set. I know, I know, I should be more precise, but hey, I’m just having fun with it. And I noticed that my form was pretty good, I didn’t struggling too much to keep my balance and perform the exercise correctly.
I finished my workout with some bent-over rows. Again, just basic stuff, focusing on getting the movement right rather than lifting super heavy. I did a few sets of these, and by the end, I could definitely feel it in my back and arms.
My feeling
Overall, I think the 10kg barbell is a good weight for me right now. It’s not too light that it feels like I’m not doing anything, but it’s also not too heavy that I’m struggling to lift it. I think I’ll stick with this weight for a while and see how it goes. Maybe in a few weeks, I’ll try something heavier, who knows? But for now, I’m happy with my 10kg barbell workout. It’s not about being the strongest or lifting the most, it’s about feeling good and enjoying the process, right?
