So, I’ve been messing around with this 9mm curved barbell lately, and let me tell you, it’s been quite the journey. I’ve always been intrigued by different kinds of piercings and body jewelry, but I’d never really tried a curved barbell myself until now.
First off, I did a bit of reading online. Seems like these things are used for all sorts of piercings – belly buttons, nipples, eyebrows, even septums. The measurement, 9mm in this case, is the straight-line distance between the two balls on the ends. I found out that they’re especially good for rook piercings, which is what got me interested. The area around a rook piercing swells up a lot, and a curved barbell helps because it sits inside the ear and doesn’t get caught on everything. Smart, right?
Anyway, I got myself one of these 9mm curved barbells. When I first held it, I thought, “This looks simple enough.” But it’s a bit tricky. I tried it out on my rook piercing first. I carefully unscrewed one of the balls—man, those things are tiny!—and tried to put the barbell in.

Sizing it Up
Making sure I had the right size was the first step. Too big, and it would be sticking out like a sore thumb; too small, and it wouldn’t be doing its job. I went with the 9mm because it seemed like a good middle ground.

The First Try
Getting the barbell into my rook piercing was a bit of a struggle, not gonna lie. I tried to keep everything as clean as possible, washing my hands and using some saline solution. The curved shape made it a bit awkward to insert, but I eventually managed.

Getting Comfortable
Once it was in, it felt a bit weird at first. But after a few days, I got used to it. The curve really does make a difference—it fits snugly and feels pretty secure. Plus, it doesn’t snag on my hair or clothes, which is a huge relief.

Trying Other Piercings
After getting the hang of the rook piercing, I got a bit adventurous and tried the barbell on my eyebrow and then on my navel piercing. The eyebrow was relatively easy, but the navel was a bit more challenging. It took a few tries, but I got it in eventually. Each time, I made sure to clean the area and the jewelry thoroughly.
All in all, this little experiment with the 9mm curved barbell has been pretty interesting. It’s definitely different from using straight barbells or hoops, and I can see why people like them. It took some getting used to, but now I feel like I’ve got the hang of it. And who knows, maybe I’ll try some other sizes or styles in the future. This whole body jewelry thing is more fun than I thought!
