Okay, here’s my blog post about the “glow in the dark barbell” project:

So, I saw this thing online about making a barbell that glows in the dark, and I thought, “Hey, that’s kinda cool, I gotta try that!” I mean, who wouldn’t want a barbell that looks like it came straight out of a sci-fi movie? Plus, I always work out in my garage, and it can get pretty dark in there, so, problem solved, right?
Getting Started
First things first, I needed a barbell. Luckily, I already had my trusty old one lying around. It’s seen better days, sure, but it’s still solid. Then came the glow-in-the-dark part. I hopped online and ordered some glow-in-the-dark powder. There are, like, a million different colors, but I went with classic green because, well, it’s classic.
The Messy Part
- Mixing: I grabbed a big bucket and dumped in some clear epoxy resin. This stuff is sticky, so make sure you’re wearing gloves. Then, I slowly added the glow powder, stirring like crazy to get it all mixed in evenly. I didn’t want any clumps!
- Applying: Okay, this is where things got a little…interesting. I used a cheap paintbrush to slather the glowing epoxy all over the barbell. It was messy, and I definitely got some on my hands (even with gloves!), but hey, that’s part of the fun, right? I made sure to get a nice, even coat on all the weight plates.
- Waiting (The Hardest Part): Epoxy takes a while to dry, and this was the hardest part. I had to leave the barbell alone for, like, 24 hours. It was tough, but I resisted the urge to poke it.
The Big Reveal
After a full day of waiting, I finally got to see the finished product. I turned off the lights in the garage, and BAM! There it was, my glowing barbell. It looked awesome! The green glow was super bright, and it really did look like something out of a movie.
Charging up and the effect!
I grab my barbell out to the sun.
I charged my barbell for a few hours under directly sunshine.
I moved it to my dark garage.

WOW! It glowed so bright green light, that’s so amazing!
I’m pretty stoked with how it turned out. It was a fun little project, and now I have a barbell that’s not only functional but also looks super cool. Plus, I can actually see it in my dark garage, which is a major bonus. If you’re looking for a fun DIY project, I definitely recommend giving this one a try. Just be prepared to get a little messy!
