Okay, so I finally decided to get a fixed barbell set with a rack for my home gym. I’ve been using adjustable dumbbells for a while, but I wanted something that felt more… substantial, you know? Something I could really push myself with.

The Shopping Around
First, I spent a good chunk of time just looking around online. There are so many options, different weights, different rack styles… it was kind of overwhelming! I read a bunch of reviews, compared prices, and tried to figure out what would actually fit in my limited space.
Making the Purchase
I finally settled on a set that seemed like a good balance of quality and price. I ordered it, and man, was I excited for it to arrive. It felt like Christmas morning when the delivery truck finally showed up.
Unboxing and Assembly
The boxes were HEAVY. I definitely needed a hand getting them inside. Then came the fun part – assembly. I’m not the handiest person, but I managed to put the rack together without too much trouble. The instructions were pretty clear, thankfully. I was a little clumsy, so it really took me a few hours to get the work done!
- Unpacked all the pieces.
- Laid everything out to make sure I had all the parts.
- Followed the instructions (mostly) to assemble the rack.
- Tightened all the bolts – super important!
- Carefully put on the bar rests.
First Workout!
Once it was all set up, I couldn’t wait to try it out. I loaded up a moderate weight to start, just to get a feel for it. And wow, it felt so much different than the dumbbells. Way more stable. I did some squats, bench presses, and overhead presses. It felt amazing!
My Thoughts So Far
I’ve been using the set for a few weeks now, and I’m loving it. I feel like I can really push myself harder, and I’m already seeing some progress. It’s definitely a great addition to my home gym. It’s also nice to have the rack to safely store the barbell when I’m not using it.
If you’re thinking about getting a fixed barbell set, I’d say go for it! Just make sure you do your research, measure your space, and be prepared for some heavy lifting… both during assembly and during your workouts!
