Okay, folks, let’s dive into this little project I tackled: making dumbbell Christmas tree ornaments!

So, I saw this idea floating around and thought, “Hey, I can do that!” I’m all about hitting the gym, and Christmas is, well, Christmas. Combining the two? Sounded like a fun, quirky idea.
Gathering My Supplies
First things first, I needed to gather my materials. I didn’t want to spend a fortune, so I kept it pretty simple. I grabbed:
- Some cheap, basic Christmas ball ornaments (the plastic kind, because, you know, dropping things). I picked red and silver ones.
- Black spray paint.
- Silver paint marker.
- Some thin ribbon. I chose red, to make things more festival.
- Super glue – the heavy-duty stuff.
- A pair of disposable chopsticks(from takeout!).
Prepping the “Weights”
The ornaments were going to be the “weight plates” of my dumbbells. I took them outside – because spray paint fumes indoors are a no-go – and gave them a good coat of black paint. I made sure to do this in a well-ventilated area (aka my backyard) and let them dry completely. This took a couple of hours, so I went and did some, uh, actual weightlifting while I waited.
Creating the Dumbbell “Bar”
While the paint was drying, I worked on the bar.
I directly took out the chopsticks and try to put them througth the ornaments.
Assembling the Dumbbells
Once the “weights” were dry, it was assembly time.
I put the ornaments on the *’s kind like the real dumbbell.
Adding the Final Touches
With my silver paint marker, I carefully wrote “5 LB” on each “weight plate” to make them look a little more realistic.
Then, I used the same super glue to attach the ribbon to the top of each chopstick, making a loop so I could hang them on the tree.
I had to hold it in place for a minute to make sure it really stuck.

The Finished Product!
And there you have it! My homemade dumbbell Christmas tree ornaments. They’re not perfect, but I think they turned out pretty cool. They’re definitely a conversation starter, and they add a little bit of my personality to the Christmas tree. Plus, it was a fun, easy project that didn’t break the bank. If you’re looking for a unique ornament idea and you’re a gym rat like me, give it a try!
