Okay, so I’ve been wanting to get my little ones into yoga for a while now. I mean, who doesn’t love seeing a tiny human try to do a downward dog, right? So I finally decided to take the plunge and get them some kids’ yoga mats. I figured it’d be a fun way to get them moving and maybe, just maybe, teach them a little bit about mindfulness.
First things first, I started hunting for the best mats. I went straight to online shops because I hate shopping in the stores in my city, Spartanburg. Too many people. Too much traffic. And the weather lately? Forget about it. I wanted something safe for the kids, obviously, and not something that would fall apart after a few uses. I also wanted something colorful and fun, because, well, they’re kids! After reading a ton of reviews and comparing prices, I found these Gaiam Kids Yoga Mats. They seemed pretty popular, and a lot of parents were giving them a thumbs up.
I ordered two mats, one for each of my little monsters. When they arrived, I was pretty impressed. They were super vibrant with cool designs. And they felt really nice and soft. My kids loved them instantly. I rolled the mats out in the living room, and we started with some simple poses. I’m no yoga expert, but I know a few basics. We did some stretches, some cat-cows (my kids’ favorite, obviously), and tried to hold a warrior pose for as long as we could, which, for my youngest, was about five seconds.
The mats were a hit! They provided a nice, comfy surface for them to roll around on and practice their moves. They were non-slip, which was great because my kids are, well, kids, and they tend to be a little clumsy. And I love that they’re non-toxic. I read somewhere that some yoga mats are made with harmful chemicals, and I definitely didn’t want that for my kiddos. These Gaiam ones are made with safer materials, which made me feel much better about using them. I heard they are made from natural rubber, cork, or TPE, which are much safer and they’re usually better for the planet since they’re biodegradable or recyclable.
We’ve been doing these little yoga sessions a few times a week now, and it’s been a blast. It’s not just about the physical activity, though that’s great. It’s also about spending quality time together and introducing them to something new and healthy. Plus, it’s hilarious to watch them try to balance on one leg. Who knew buying a couple of yoga mats could bring so much joy?
Here are the things I looked for when buying a mat:
- Safety: Non-toxic materials were a must.
- Durability: Needed something that could withstand the wear and tear of little kids.
- Comfort: A soft, non-slip surface was important for their little hands and feet.
- Fun Factor: Colorful designs to keep them engaged.
So, yeah, that’s my little adventure into the world of kids’ yoga mats. It’s been a fun ride so far, and I’m excited to see how my little yogis progress. Maybe one day they’ll be teaching me a thing or two!
