Okay, so I’ve been seeing these “ajna yoga mats” all over my Instagram feed, and I finally caved and decided to try one out. I’m always looking for ways to chill out and maybe help with my back pain, so I figured, why not?

Getting Started
First, I did some quick searching online to see what all the fuss was about. Ended up ordering one – I went for the basic one, no need to get fancy right away. When it arrived, I was a little, uh, intimidated. It’s basically a mat covered in these little plastic spikes. It looked… painful.
The First Try
I laid the mat out on my living room floor, put on some relaxing music, and took a deep breath. I started by just sitting on it. Whoa. It’s definitely a unique sensation. Not exactly painful, but super intense. It felt like a thousand tiny needles pressing into my skin. I only lasted a few minutes that first time.
Building Up Tolerance
- Day 1: 5 minutes sitting, felt super weird.
- Day 2: 10 minutes sitting, started to feel… okay?
- Day 3: Tried lying down on it (with a shirt on!). Lasted about 5 minutes.
- Day 4: 10 minutes lying down, still with a shirt.
- Day 5: Finally braved it shirtless! Only for a few minutes, but it was a milestone!
Getting Used To It
It took a few days to get used to the feeling. I gradually increased the time I spent on the mat, and started experimenting with different positions. Lying on my back was definitely the most intense, but I also tried it on my stomach (for digestion, apparently) and even stood on it for a bit (that was… interesting).
The Results?
After a couple of weeks of using the ajna mat pretty regularly, I have to say… I kinda like it! It’s definitely helped with my back tension. I feel way more relaxed after using it, and it’s become part of my wind-down routine before bed. It’s not a miracle cure, but it’s a nice little addition to my self-care arsenal. I sometimes felt like I slept better, but who can really know for sure? At least I think I did, and I’m way more chilled out during the day.
I started slowly feeling this sort of, melting sensation. I think it might be the increased blood flow, or just my body getting used to the pressure, I couldn’t rightly say.
Final Thoughts
Would I recommend it? Yeah, I think so. It’s not for everyone, and it definitely takes some getting used to. But if you’re looking for a way to relax, relieve tension, and maybe even help with some aches and pains, it’s worth checking out. Just be prepared for that initial “ouch” factor!
