Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get a decent workout setup at home for ages. Finally decided to pull the trigger and start with a bench and some dumbbells. Figured that’s a good foundation, right?

First, I spent way too long browsing online. So many options! Adjustable benches, flat benches, Olympic sets, standard sets… my head was spinning. I finally settled on an adjustable bench because, you know, versatility. I wanted to be able to do incline presses and stuff.
Finding the Right Dumbbells
Next up: dumbbells. I debated between getting a set of fixed-weight dumbbells or those adjustable ones. The adjustable ones seemed cool and space-saving, but I’d heard some mixed reviews about them feeling clunky. Plus, I kinda like the idea of just grabbing the weight I need and going.
- Checked a few local sporting goods stores – mostly just to get a feel for the different types of dumbbells.
- Compared prices online (again!). Lots of scrolling, lots of comparing.
- Finally found a decent set of rubber-coated hex dumbbells. They seemed durable, and the rubber coating should help protect my floors a bit.
I ordered everything, and the waiting game began. It felt like forever, but the bench and dumbbells finally arrived. The boxes were heavy as heck! I definitely needed a friend to help me haul them inside.
Assembly Time!
Assembly time! The bench was surprisingly easy to put together. Just a few bolts and I was good to go. The dumbbells, of course, didn’t need any assembly. Thank goodness.
I cleared out a space in my spare room, set up the bench, and arranged the dumbbells neatly along the wall. It’s not a fancy gym, but it’s mine! I did a few test presses and curls. Felt good!
The weights I got from 5lb to 50lb.

Now, I just need to actually use it consistently. That’s the real challenge, isn’t it? But hey, at least I’ve got the equipment. No more excuses!
