Okay, so I’ve been hitting the gym pretty hard lately, and I’m always on the lookout for a good protein bar. You know, something that actually tastes good and helps with the muscle gains. Today, I decided to try out these Barebells Cookies and Cream Protein Bars. I’d heard some good things, and the “cookies and cream” part definitely got my attention. Who doesn’t love cookies and cream?
Getting Started
First off, I went to Target. They usually have a decent selection of protein stuff. Found these bars in the usual spot, right next to all the other protein bars. The packaging looked pretty slick, I gotta say.
Checking the Label
Now, before I buy anything, I always gotta check the nutrition facts. I saw that these bars have 20 grams of protein, which is pretty solid. They also mentioned “no added sugar” on the box, which is a plus for me. I’m trying to cut down on sugar, but I still want something that tastes good, you know? They also put REAL COCOA BUTTER AND COCOA POWDER, and that’s a good sign.
First Bite
- Unwrapped one of the bars. It looked pretty good, like a regular candy bar almost.
- Took a bite, and man, it was soft! Not like those rock-hard protein bars that feel like you’re chewing on cardboard.
- It had this creamy, kind of gooey center, but with little crunchy bits in it. I guess that’s the “cookies” part.
Taste Test
Honestly, I was surprised. It actually tasted like cookies and cream! It wasn’t overly sweet, which is something I appreciate. It had that classic cookies and cream flavor, and the texture was on point. It’s got this soft and creamy cookie-dough core, covered in sweet milk chocolate and some crunchy cookie crispies. They really did follow the classic flavor inspired by the most loved American cookies.
Then I went ahead to check out the ingredients. I saw this: “Chocolate Flavored Coating (Maltitol, Fractionated Palm Kernel Oil, Whey Protein Concentrate, Cocoa [Processed with Alkali], Calcium Carbonate.” Ok, not bad. It’s all the usual stuff you see in protein bars.
The Verdict
I’m actually impressed with these Barebells bars. They taste good, they’re packed with protein, and they don’t have a ton of added sugar. I ate one after my workout, and it definitely helped with that post-gym hunger. I think this bar highlights three flavors: cookies, caramel, and chocolate. The core is cookie and chocolate-flavored, covered with a sweet, lightly salted caramel layer, which is awesome!
Final Thoughts
I’d definitely buy these again. They’re a good option for a quick protein boost, and they satisfy that sweet tooth without being a total sugar bomb. Plus, they’re pretty easy to find, just head over to Target and grab a box. If you’re looking for a tasty protein bar that actually delivers on the cookies and cream flavor, give these a try. You might be surprised!
I know some of you guys are on keto, so you’d have to check if these fit into your macros, and the bar is marked as 20g protein, I’d say it’s worth a try.
Alright, that’s it for my little protein bar adventure today. Gotta go plan my next workout! Stay tuned for more of my fitness and food experiments!
