So, I’ve been wanting to get into this whole DIY jewelry thing for a while now, and I finally took the plunge. I decided to start with something that’s meaningful to me – a barbell cross necklace. You know, combining my love for fitness and my faith. Sounds kinda cheesy, but it’s my thing.
First, I went on a hunt for materials. I needed a silver cross pendant and some tiny barbells. I figured I could find these online, and I did. And I checked it out some online stores and finally found exactly what I was looking for. After a few clicks, I had them on order.
While waiting for the stuff to arrive, I started sketching out some designs. I wanted something simple but not too plain. I drew a few different versions, playing around with how the barbells would attach to the cross. Finally, I settled on a design where the barbells would form the horizontal part of the cross.
When the package finally arrived, I was like a kid on Christmas morning. I ripped it open and got to work. The cross pendant was perfect, and the little barbells were just the right size.
Next, I needed to figure out how to attach them. I grabbed some jewelry pliers and jump rings from a local craft store. After some trial and error – and a few bent jump rings – I managed to connect the barbells to the cross. It was trickier than I thought, but I got it done.
Finally, I attached a silver chain I already had. I put it on, and it looked… awesome! It was exactly what I had envisioned. I couldn’t wait to show this to my friends.
This whole project was a lot of fun, and it felt good to create something with my own hands. I learned a lot about jewelry making, and I’m already thinking about my next project. Maybe some dumbbell earrings? We’ll see.
