Okay, so I’ve been using this yoga mat for a while, and let me tell you, it was getting pretty gross. I mean, I sweat a lot during my workouts, and it was definitely time for a good cleaning. I heard about the lululemon yoga mat cleaner and thought I’d give it a try. Here’s how it went down.
First, I grabbed my mat and laid it out on the floor. I could see all the sweat marks and, yeah, it wasn’t a pretty sight. I knew I needed something that would really clean it without damaging the material. I remembered reading somewhere that you can use stuff from your kitchen, so I decided to try that first before buying anything specific.
Method 1: Vinegar and Water
- Mixed one part white vinegar with three parts water in a spray bottle. I figured this was a safe bet since vinegar is like a natural cleaner and deodorizer.
- Sprayed the solution all over the mat. I made sure to get every inch of it, especially those extra sweaty spots.
- Let it sit for a few minutes. I wanted to give the vinegar some time to work its magic.
- Wiped it down with a clean, damp cloth. I scrubbed a bit harder on the areas that looked dirtier.
- Flipped the mat over and did the same thing on the other side. Gotta make sure both sides are clean, right?
- Hung it up to air dry completely. I made sure it was in a well-ventilated area so it would dry faster.
The mat looked a lot better after this, but I still felt like it needed something more. I remembered another tip about using dish soap, so I went for that next.
Method 2: Mild Dish Soap and Water
- Filled a spray bottle with warm water and added a few squirts of mild dish soap. I used the regular stuff I use for my dishes, nothing fancy.
- Sprayed the mixture onto the mat, just like I did with the vinegar solution.
- Used a soft-bristled brush to gently scrub the mat. I focused on the areas where I usually place my hands and feet.
- Rinsed the mat thoroughly with clean water. I used a hose for this part to make sure all the soap was gone.
- Patted it dry with a towel to remove excess water.
- Hung it up to air dry again.
This two-step process seemed to do the trick. My mat looked much cleaner and smelled fresher. But I also read about using tea tree oil, which sounded interesting because of its antibacterial properties. So, I gave that a shot too.
Method 3: Tea Tree Oil
- Filled a small spray bottle mostly with water.
- Added a few drops of tea tree oil. I didn’t measure exactly, just enough to make the water smell like tea tree.
- Sprayed this mixture on the mat after I had already cleaned it with the vinegar and dish soap methods.
- Wiped it down with a clean cloth.
- Let it air dry.
After trying all three methods, my lululemon yoga mat was looking and smelling so much better! It felt really clean and ready for my next yoga session. I think combining all these methods really helped to deep clean the mat. From now on, I’ll probably just stick to one of these methods for regular cleaning, but it’s good to know that I can use all three for a more thorough clean when needed. Overall, I’m pretty happy with how this turned out. It was a bit of work, but definitely worth it to have a clean and fresh yoga mat.
