Okay, so I’ve been hitting the gym lately, trying to get back in shape, you know? And I figured it was time to add some weight training to my routine. I started looking into dumbbells, and boy, there’s a lot of choices out there. I decided to go with the 30 lb. rubber hex dumbbells. They seemed like a good middle ground – not too light, not too heavy. Plus, they have that rubber coating, which is nice for protecting my floors.
First, I checked out a few different brands. There’s this one called CAP that a lot of people seem to like. They’re known for being pretty affordable, so I started using them. Another one I tried is Yes4All. They are also budget-friendly and seem well-made. I did a few sets of bicep curls and shoulder presses with both, and they felt good in my hands. The grip was comfortable, and the weight felt evenly distributed.
I also tested out some octagonal dumbbells from SPRI. They’re a little different, but some people prefer that shape. I did a few rows and triceps extensions with them, but I think I still prefer the classic hex shape. They just felt a bit awkward to me, but that’s just my personal preference, I guess.
- Bicep curls: Started with 3 sets of 10 reps. It was tough, but I pushed through.
- Shoulder presses: Also 3 sets of 10. My shoulders were burning by the end, in a good way!
- Rows: I did these with my back straight, 3 sets of 12. Really felt it in my back and arms.
- Triceps extensions: These were a killer! 3 sets of 8, and I was definitely feeling it.
Here are some of the exercises I’ve been doing:
I found out that I could probably start with a lower weight, especially since I’m just starting. But hey, I’m ambitious, right? I figured I’d grow into them. I read somewhere that for a beginner my size, I should be using something lighter, but 30 lbs is not very heavy, I can still do many reps with it. I know it’s important to listen to my body and not overdo it, though. So I’m taking it slow, focusing on proper form, and gradually increasing the weight or reps as I get stronger. I do them for about 100 times a day to get my biceps bigger.
Overall, I’m really happy with my 30 lb. rubber hex dumbbells. They’re a great addition to my workout routine, and I’m already starting to see some progress. It’s definitely a challenge, but I’m determined to stick with it and keep pushing myself. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be lifting those 50-pounders like it’s nothing!
