Alright, so yesterday I did something I haven’t done in a while – I hit the gym. I wasn’t really planning on anything crazy, just wanted to move a bit, you know? I ended up grabbing a barbell, it felt pretty standard, and I figured I’d do some simple lifting, nothing too intense.
When I picked up the barbell, I realized it was one of those regular ones they have at almost every gym. It wasn’t super heavy, but it had a nice weight to it. I later found out that the men’s bars usually are around 44 lbs, which sounds about right.
- First thing I did: I just held the bar and walked around a bit, getting a feel for the weight.
- Next up: I did some basic deadlifts. Didn’t add any extra weights. Just wanted to get the motion down and not strain anything.
- Then: I tried a few overhead presses. Again, just the bar. It was actually tougher than I thought it would be.
Just keeping it simple
I did a few sets of each, not really counting reps, just going until I felt a bit tired. After a few rounds, I could really feel it, especially in my shoulders and back. It’s funny how just 44 lbs can start to feel heavy after a while.
Finished up with some stretches and called it a day. It wasn’t a hardcore workout or anything, but it felt good to lift something, even if it was just a 50 lbs barbell. I might go back tomorrow and do it again, maybe add a little weight if I’m feeling up to it. Who knows?
