My old bones been achin’ lately, so my granddaughter, bless her heart, she told me to try this yoga thing. Said it would help. First thing’s first, she said I needed a colorful yoga mat. Colorful, mind you! Like I’m some spring chicken! But I figured, why not? A splash of color never hurt nobody.
Gettin’ the Right Mat
She went on and on about what kind to get. Said there’s a whole bunch of ’em. This colorful yoga mat business is more complicated than it looks!
- Some are made of rubber, she said.
- Some are made of, well, I don’t rightly remember what she called it. Some fancy name.
- She said some are thick, some are thin.
- Some are good for your body, but not good for the earth.
Well I need somethin’ that can make me feel good. I don’t need no fancy stuff. Need somethin’ that don’t slip. Last thing I need is to fall and break a hip!
My granddaughter, she’s a smart one. She told me to think about how I wanna feel when I’m doin’ this yoga. Do I wanna feel calm? Do I wanna feel, what was that word she used? Energized? Like I got a whole bunch of bees buzzin’ inside me. She said the color of the colorful yoga mat can make you feel different ways.
Colors and Feelings
Now, I like blue. Blue is the color of the sky on a clear day. Makes me feel peaceful. Like I’m layin’ in a field of wildflowers, lookin’ up at the clouds. She said blue is good for that. For feelin’ calm. That’s good. That’s what I’m wantin’.
She also mentioned purple. Said it’s like blue, but a little different. Can’t say I’ve seen many purple things in my day. Except maybe them grapes my neighbor used to grow. But those were more dark than purple I think. My granddaughtor says purple is good for feelin’ calm, too. So maybe a colorful yoga mat that’s purple wouldn’t be so bad.
Then there’s green. Green like the grass after a good rain. Green like the leaves on the trees in the summertime. That makes me feel good, too. Fresh and new. She said green is also good for feelin’ calm. So many choices! It is a colorful world.
Yellow now, that’s a happy color. Like the sun shinin’ down. But she said yellow might make me feel too, what was it? Too excited? I don’t know about that. I like feelin’ happy, but I don’t want to be jumpin’ around like a jackrabbit! Maybe a little yellow is okay for my colorful yoga mat.
She said somethin’ about pink, too. Pink like the roses my husband used to bring me. Soft and pretty. She said pink can make you feel happy, too, but in a gentle way. I like that. Gentle is good. I’m too old for all that roughhousin’.
What’s Important for a Colorful Yoga Mat
She said I need a colorful yoga mat that’s thick enough so my old bones don’t hurt on the floor. She called it cushion. Like a pillow, but for your whole body. She also said the colorful yoga mat needs to be long enough so I don’t hang off the ends. I’m not as tall as I used to be, but I’m still no tiny thing!
And she said it can’t be too heavy. I gotta be able to carry it around, you see. I might want to do this yoga outside sometimes. Or maybe even take it to that community center down the road. They have all sorts of classes there.
My granddaughter said a good colorful yoga mat should be easy to clean. That’s important. I don’t want somethin’ that’s gonna get all dirty and smelly. Especially if I’m gonna be sweatin’ all over it! She says I need to find a colorful yoga mat that is sweat-resistant. And she said it should last a long time, too. I don’t want to be buyin’ a new one every few months.
My Choice for a Colorful Yoga Mat
So, after all that, I think I’m gonna get me a blue one. A colorful yoga mat that’s blue like the sky. Maybe with a little bit of green in it, too. Like the sky and the grass together. That sounds nice. And it needs to be thick and soft. And not too heavy. And easy to clean.
It’s a lot to think about, this colorful yoga mat business. But I reckon if it helps my old bones feel better, it’ll be worth it. And who knows, maybe I’ll even start feelin’ like a spring chicken again! Maybe not. But a little color in my life sure won’t hurt. It has been a long time I did not buy somethin’ new. I think I deserve a colorful yoga mat.
